Spartan athletics get an upgrade

Growth, both personal and structural, is the watchword at Manchester University these days. Among the latter: A new multipurpose athletic stadium will be built south of Carl Burt Field on the site of the existing track and include an artificial turf field for football and soccer; new seating, restrooms and concessions for maximum comfort; a state-of-the-art pressbox; and a modern Olympic-size track. The new facility will enable MU to attract major track-and-field events, give it the option of adding lacrosse to its 21 intercollegiate sports, and attract more high-quality student-athletes while raising the University’s profile.  And you can help! A gift of $1,500 or more will be recognized with a plaque permanently displayed in the stadium. Donors can make gifts in their own name or in honor or memory of a friend, coach or family member. Yet more growth

It’s not just Spartan athletics that are a growing concern. As Manchester President Dave McFadden announced recently, ground will be broken in the coming months on two new projects: The new Jean Childs Young Intercultural Center, for which construction began early this month, and the Chinworth Center, for which ground will be broken in mid-May 2018. The Intercultural Center will be located at College Avenue and East Street, and the Chinworth Center which will be built just north of the Jo Young Switzer Center. The latter will add about 36,000 square feet for student learning and services. It will include a One-Stop Shop for registrar and student financial services, the study abroad and honors programs, offices for student activities and experiential learning, a commuter lounge and coffee bar. The College of Business will occupy the second floor. To contribute to one or both projects, click here
