Community Day kicks off

new Spartan year on Thursday, Sept. 3

Friends, football, free ice cream and prizes. Sound like the perfect fall evening?

Thursday, Sept. 3 is Community Day at Manchester College, when North Manchester residents are invited to join their neighbors at the Spartans game with Trine University, enjoy some ice cream and maybe win a digital camera or other prizes. It’s all free to North Manchester residents and their families.

Families may want to make a night of it by joining students for supper in the adjacent Manchester College union at a discounted price of $5. Serving is 6 to 7 p.m. Prizes given away during the football game are courtesy of local merchants. Peabody Retirement Community is providing the ice cream, dished out by the Alzheimer’s Association.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Manchester College is coming off its best season in 11 years after a 5-5 record and capturing the Bronze Ball from Anderson University last season. The Spartans, led by Head Coach Shannon Griffith, return senior quarterback Caleb Grimes, senior running back Brandon Wells and sophomore offensive lineman and All-Region selection Chase Estepp.

The trio helped the Spartans achieve the No. 1 rush offense in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) and the second best total offense in the conference. Also returning are two first-team All-Conference players – senior defensive back Jeremiah Jones and senior linebacker Mike Depoy.
