NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (Nov. 25, 2003) - The sounds of the Manchester Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Choral Society and Manchester College A Cappella Choir will come together for the ninth annual Holiday Extravaganza on Sunday, Dec. 7.

The afternoon concert on the Manchester College campus includes orchestral selections from Nutcraker by Tchaikovsky, Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, Skater's Waltz by Emile Waldteufel and a Canadian Brass Christmas by Calvin Custer. Director of the Symphony Orchestra is Robert G. Jones, associate professor of music/woodwinds.

Choral presentations include Shepherd's Pipe Carol by John Rutter, Myn Lyking by R.R. Terry and A Symphonic Scenario medley of Christmas carols.

The program premiers Dona Nobis Pace by Choral Director Debra J. Lynn. "(Dona Nobis Pacem) is my longest single-movement composition, 12 minutes in duration," said Lynn, associate professor of music. "This was my first attempt at composing a full orchestra score with chorus." The A Cappella Choir will perform the original music on its peace tour of cathedrals in Italy in the spring.

The Holiday Extravaganza begins at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 in Cordier Auditorium. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 for general admission and free for students and senior citizens.
