It’s Homecoming & Family Weekend

at Manchester College

Homecoming and Family Weekend at Manchester College is packed to the brim with fine arts, athletics, reunions, class photos, food and applause Oct. 2-3. There’s also a free carnival for youngsters, a mentalist/hypnotist and a Greek play.

Alumni will want to come prepared to join in – as visiting members of the A Cappella Choir, Symphonic and Jazz bands; on the golf course or baseball diamond; in a cook-off challenge and posing for class photographs. Some will find their artwork on display in Gallery G in the College Union.

On Friday evening, Oct. 2, alumni will join the College choir and band on the stage of Cordier Auditorium for a free concert. The music begins at 7:30 p.m., followed by a reception. Popular mentalist/hypnotist Banachek will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday in Cordier. Tickets at the door are $5, free for students and children. Homecoming registration opens at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 in the College Union.

The M Association will honor retired Plymouth High School Coach Allen Shockney ’63 during halftime as its 2009 Claude Wolfe Coach of the Year. No reservation is necessary to join the reception at 10:30 a.m. in the upper lobby of the Physical Education and Recreation Center (PERC).

Eight classes will reunite for Homecoming: 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994 and 1999. Class photos begin promptly at 11:10 a.m. in Haist Commons of the College Union. As always, the Young Alumni Tent will bustle for graduates of the past 10 years.

The football Spartans meet Rose-Hulman at 1:30 p.m. on Carl W. Burt Field. Both soccer teams also are at home on Saturday afternoon.

Children’s activities, led by the College’s future teachers, will fill Saturday morning to free their parents for alumni registration and conversations. A free carnival runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the athletic grounds.

Visitors also will want to check out Link Gallery in Wine Recital Hall, right across from the College Union, where the MC collection of student printmaking from the 1960s through the 1980s is on display. The free exhibit closes Oct. 9.
