Penny French-Deal: Contemporary Impressionism

The contemporary impressionism of Hoosier artist Penny French-Deal is on display in Gallery G of Manchester College through February.

French-Deal was raised on a Wabash County farm, where the landscapes inspired her early artistic passions. While Midwest scenes are prevalent in her oils displayed at Manchester College, the exhibit also includes landscapes from her European travels and her love of animals.

“One could not classify my work as a literal statement of the subject,” says French-Deal of her artistic technique and signature of warm, vibrant colors. “Rather it is an impressionistic interpretation giving freedom for the viewer to take pleasure in the message.”

Her paintings hang in private, corporate, museum and university collections throughout the United States and have won numerous awards, including the 2008 Celebrating Hoosier Women Artists award and inclusion in the forthcoming Hoosier Painters of the 21st Century, Vol. II.  French-Deal, of North Manchester, studied at Indiana University Purdue University, Fort Wayne and the Fort Wayne Art Institute.

Gallery G is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday when classes are in session. The campus is closed for the Christmas holiday, Dec. 19-27. Admission to Gallery G is free and handicap accessible.
