For forty-five years, Dave Friermood served Manchester University – in charge of setting up for events, as director of maintenance and as a residence hall custodian to name just a few of his roles.
He died Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Peabody Healthcare in North Manchester.
Friermood was known for his kindness, warmth, work ethic and humor.
“He never taught from the front of a classroom, but he taught our students lessons every day about caring and kindness by the way he treated them,” said Manchester University President Dave McFadden, after an event this winter honoring Friermood.
In 2002, MU honored him by naming a maintenance department building for him, the David Friermood Hall of Storage.
The Swayzee native, 72, retired in 2010. The young men who worked with him – known as Dave’s Boys – and their spouses in 2009 set up a scholarship fund in his name.
Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday, June 2, at the Congregational Christian Church in North Manchester, with Pastors J.P. Freeman and Sebrina Cline officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Monday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main St., North Manchester, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
