Mars, Venus, or Planet Earth? Women & Men on Campus in a New Millennium

We're often told that men and women are so different we might as well come from different planets.

Michael KimmelDr. Michael Kimmel, a nationally acclaimed scholar and teacher, strips away those myths and suggests that women and men aren't so different after all. He will speak this month at Manchester University’s North Manchester campus.

“Mars, Venus, or Planet Earth? Women & Men on Campus in a New Millennium” is 7 p.m. Monday, April 13, in the upper level of the Jo Young Switzer Center.

Surveying the landscape of current controversies about gender, he shows how men and women are transforming our campus and our culture — and why gender equality is actually a good thing for men.

Kimmel is a distinguished professor of sociology and gender studies at Stony Brook University, where he directs the Center for the Study of Men and Masculinities in Stony Brook, N.Y.

A reception will follow the presentation, with book sales and signing.

The program is sponsored by MU Gender Studies, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Department of History and Political Science, and the Department of Sociology.
