Manchester opens auditions
Feb. 4-5 for spring Nunsense
Manchester University invites women of the community and campus to try out for the spring production of the musical comedy Nunsense.
Auditions are 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 4-5 on the North Manchester campus. The Monday auditions are in Wine Recital Hall; Tuesday auditions are in Cordier Auditorium. Rehearsals begin in early March; the show opens for a three-day run on April 26 in Cordier.
Nunsense brings actors of varied ages to the stage to portray five nuns who must raise funds for their convent: Mother Superior Mary Regina (a former circus performer), the dignified Sister Mary Hubert, the streetwise Sister Robert Anne, the childlike Sister Mary Amnesia and would-be ballerina Sister Mary Leo.
Those who audition should prepare 16 to 32 measures of a musical theatre song and familiarize themselves with the show. Scripts may be checked out for 24 hours at Funderburg Library before the auditions. Those with a background in dance or ballet should bring tap shoes (although a dance background is not required).
The musical debuted off-Broadway in 1985, and the nuns’ antics have been entertaining U.S., London and TV audiences ever since. For more about the productions, visit www.nunsense.com.
