Happy Halloween (barely)!!! We hope that you have had an exceptional October. As it ends and we inch closer to winter, your ITS team wants to highlight the following information.
With each newsletter, we want to remind you to report any technology-related issues you’re facing to our Help Desk. Please refer to the following contact methods.

Spring Forward, FALL Back
This weekend, technically at 2 a.m. Sunday morning (November 5th), you will regain an hour of sleep as you set your clocks back. In an instant, 2 a.m. becomes 1 a.m. Most technology applies the time changes automatically at the end of Daylight Saving Time. However, your clocks and watches will likely need a nudge. You may see clocks around campus that need some help, too.
Log into Our WebEx Service
If you didn’t know, we host our own WebEx service at https://conference.manchester.edu. If you’ve never used the service before, I ask that you visit and log into the site. Logging in for the first time tells WebEx that you’re a user so that others may schedule WebEx meetings to include you. There are other ways to send you an invitation, but this makes the process much simpler.
*-Phone Tricks
When using our phone system, you can go directly to someone’s voicemail by pressing * and the user’s extension. Thus, *5454 takes you to ITS Help Desk voicemail where you can leave a message. Also, when you hear the dial tone, press ** to activate the voice directory. For example, press **, follow the prompts, say “Dan Chuzynski,” and the system will dial his number. And, yes, if you say his name correctly, it works. 😊
You can independently reset your MU network password at https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/. Be sure to set up the process before you need to do a reset. So, if you haven’t done so already, set up your password reset capability today.
Crappy Cell Phone Service
To beat substandard cellular phone service, use MU’s wireless network. You’ll have to determine how to do it with your phone—if it supports what’s called Wi-Fi Calling—but the ITS Help Desk can assist. Not all cell phones support Wi-Fi Calling. To learn if your phone does, please visit http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/133829-what-is-wi-fi-calling-and-which-devices-support-it.
Beware Old Office Documents
Halloween goblins aren’t the only thing you need to fear. We’ve found that some systems no longer play nicely with documents in old Office formats. If you have a Word document in .DOC, a spreadsheet in .XLS, or a PowerPoint in .PPT, you will want to upgrade it to the most recent version (.DOCX, .XLSX, and .PPTX, respectively.). Help Desk is available to lend a hand. While you’re at it, if you’re not running Office 2016, contact Help Desk to arrange the upgrade.</h3self-service>
