SpartanPrint Spectacular Events
We have shifted gears regarding how we demo the SpartanPrint replacement equipment. Rather than move six vendors’ equipment around the North Manchester campus, we’ll hold a 2-day extravaganza where you can test the equipment at your leisure. The North Manchester Spectacular occurs on February 26th and 27th (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days) in the Hoff/Lahman rooms in the Jo Young Switzer Center while the Fort Wayne event is March 7th (2 to 7 p.m.) and 8th (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) in the first-floor conference rooms. Copying and printing are free at the events within reason. We’ll have various PCs (Mac and Windows) and tablets for printing, ITS team members and vendors for assistance, and we’ll conduct an online survey as you exit.
Please test the equipment and provide us your feedback.
Cell Phone Service Improvements
No, we’re not talking about a new tower or other ways to improve service. Instead, we’re referring to the ability of modern smartphones to use a wireless signal to place cell phone calls. While not perfect, our wireless network supports this feature pretty well. For example, while I have no cellular signal in my office, I can place and receive cell phone calls thanks to the MUWiFi network. That’s true, too, of the MUWiFi-Public wireless network.
If you want help to set up your smartphone to use our wireless network to make cell phone calls, please reach out to the ITS Help Desk. You can find contact information above.
EMPLOYEES: Customize Your Desk Phone
Do you want to customize your desk phone? You can if you visit https://nmccm01.manchester.edu/ucmuser. After you log in using your username (not email address) and password, you can modify those devices associated with your account. In my case, I have a few Jabber devices (software-based phones) and my desk phone. When I click on the phone image/button, I can edit the phone description, customize the settings, or download the phone’s manual. Some phone settings you can customize using the website: ringtones, voicemail notifications, speed dial numbers, and more.
If you have problems, logging into this site, please contact Help Desk using the contact information above.
Help Desk Tips
- To prevent the loss of access to your network shares, power off your laptop before coming to work or while moving around campus
- If you have a USB dock for your laptop, you may find keyboard, mouse, or screen are not working properly. The most likely cure is to unplug the power cable from the dock, count to 5, and plug it back in.
- STUDENTS: Do not try to reset an expired password using the special virtual desktop stations found in all residence hall labs, the Flick area, Accounting and Business lab, and Wilbur’s. The best way to address expired passwords is to log into a regular desktop computer. Ask Help Desk if you require assistance.
- If your password hasn’t expired, you can log into any of MU-owned computer to change your password. Once the login process completes, press Ctrl + Alt + Del then click on “Change a Password.”
