Spartan Football Team 0-3 as Season Progresses

The Manchester Spartans drove up north to Michigan to play their last non-conference game of their season against a strong Olivet team. Although they lost, placing the Spartans are 0-3 for the year, Coach Nate Jensen has high hopes for his team and hope to prove that they are a strong competitor in the Heartland conference. “Preparations are going well this week, ” he said in advance of the Olivet game. “We watched film on Sunday, and we have practice Monday through Thursday and walk through on Friday.” This is Jensen’s sixth year as head coach of the Manchester Spartans.
Senior Offensive Linemen Joe Garling, who starts at right tackle for the Spartans, believes that building relationships is very important. “As a team we are communicating more, and we are becoming closer as a family,” Garling said. “From both sides of the ball and from first years to seniors.”
Last fall, construction on the new Spartan Stadium finished and players along with their coaches have nothing but great things to say. “It is a beautiful and great facility,” Jensen said. “We can practice in any weather because of the turf and don’t have to worry about the mud.”
Garling agrees. “This Stadium is awesome, ” he said. “Football isn’t the only sport benefiting from this new field. Track can finally have its first home meet which will be very exciting. Practices will be more efficient without the mud and worry about if it rains.”
The Manchester Spartans next play Franklin on Oct. 2. Their next home game is Oct. 9, when they play Defiance for Homecoming.
