Women's Basketball Tips Off Season at Adrian

Samantha Bontrager

The Lady Spartans traveled to Adrian College last Friday to play their first game of the season. The two-and-a-half-hour drive to the opponents’ arena only heightened the excitement for game one. The girls were ready to fight and win, but did not quite expect the outcome that they got.

Leaving Adrian on Friday night with their first loss under their belt made for a somber and long ride back. The game ended with a score of 52-46, the Spartans falling to the Bulldogs. Senior Faith-Alexis Graham led the team with 16 points followed by Haley Farris and Bridget Nash, who both had five points at the game’s close. Macy Miller earned the team four points while Isabella Zoog, Miranda Bieghler and Maddy Minehart all gained three points each for the Spartans. Beth Schaefer and Hillery Shepherd both scored two points to close off the Spartans’ score of 46.

As the players look forward to the remainder of this year’s season, senior Maddy Minehart says that she is looking forward to how the team will interact with each other and work together to have a successful season. “We have a great mix of returners and first-years,” Minehart says. The team faces Bethany West Virginia for the Main View Tip-Off Tournament at home in the Stauffer-Wolfe Arena tonight, Friday November 16. To finish off the month of November, the ladies hope to bring home two wins against Kalamazoo on Saturday, November 24, and Olivet on Monday, November 26. These two games are both away and then the Spartans are back home Dec.1.
