Featured alum: Wayne Madden '68

The next international president of the 1.35-million Lions Clubs International already has traveled with his wife to more than 22 countries – just in the past year. Their journey began at Manchester College in the late 60s.

Wayne Madden ’68 and Linda Sebert ’69 Madden become the ultimate ambassadors for the world’s largest service club organization next July 25. They returned to campus this summer to record a portion of their official presidential biographical video – a video that will be shown worldwide to the 44,000 Lions Clubs. Watch the video.

Two important campus stops for that video: Petersime Chapel, where the couple married in a small ceremony, and a Lions International message from the actual podium Martin Luther King Jr. stood at to deliver a convocation address in 1968. Wayne and Linda were in that audience, and also attended the Barry Goldwater convocation the following week.

The Maddens are spending his current term as first vice president traveling the world, getting the hang of the ambassadorial whirlwind he inherits next summer. The couple both retired last year to devote themselves full-time to their travel and duties. (Neither traveled internationally as Manchester students.)

He sold Wayne Madden Insurance Agency to Peoples Insurance Agency in Auburn, Ind. While he relinquished his property and casualty business, Wayne continues to serve his current clients as well as his bail bonds business. Linda taught elementary school for 36 years.

Back on campus this summer, the couple posed in front of the altar and chatted on-camera about their ceremony. Throughout the video, Wayne sported a Manchester College golf shirt. They sat at the fountain, looked at their Aurora yearbooks, posed in front of the Science Center and the main entrance of the Administration Building.

Wayne recalled helping other students move books from the old library into the brand-new Funderburg Library. He majored in business education; Linda in elementary education.
