Fall student-athletes collect honors

Manchester’s athletic programs ended the fall season strong in 2011, highlighted by the men’s and women’s cross country teams winning their third-consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship titles.

The men traveled to the NCAA Division III national championship for the second-straight year, finishing 30th. And there's more: Head Coach Brian Cashdollar is 2011 Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year, honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. In his 14th year coaching Spartan cross country men and women, Cashdollar has led three-straight Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champions. Read more about Manchester’s cross country program here.

The football program snagged two major conference honors, with Kyle Evans ’13 as HCAC Special Teams Player of the Year and running back Corey Nelson ’15 as HCAC Freshman of the Year. It’s the first time in Manchester College history for two members of the football program to win HCAC Most Outstanding Player balloting of the conference coaches.

A total of 32 Spartan student-athletes are HCAC All-Conference and 24 are HCAC Academic All-Conference this fall. Manchester finished the season 4-6 overall, 3-5 in the HCAC, including defeating Anderson for the Bronze Ball Trophy. Read more about Spartan football here.

The look of Manchester’s athletics facilities is changing. Here’s what’s new:

  • Transformed concession stand, with new restrooms
  • Safer football bleachers, with solid aluminum slats for floorboards and seat backing, handrails between sections, larger walking area and a wheelchair ramp
  • New blacktop walkway from Carl W. Burt Memorial Stadium to the R. Wayne Smith '49 Gate
  • Weatherized soccer shelters
  • New right field fence for Gratz Field baseball
  • Spartan logo windscreens for baseball, softball and soccer
