to retire Aug. 1 as athletics
director, wrestling coach


Athletics director and head wrestling coach, Tom Jarman, will retire Aug. 1. The impact of Jarman’s 18 years of leadership and mentoring, however, will continue in a highly respected athletics program solidly based in academics, equity and integrity.

Outfielder Sam Tarnowski is First-Team All-American

Four-time All-Conference outfield Sam Tarnowski '07 leads the Spartans in career and season stolen bases. He batted .427 this season, with 46 RBI, 45 runs scored, seven doubles, three triples and 10 home runs. He posted a .727 slugging percentage, and stuck 27 out of 30 steals.

The Road to Carnegie Hall: A Cappella Choir singer recounts journey to legendary concert venue

I entered A Cappella Choir auditions, warmed up, and Director Debra Lynn handed me a piece of music. She played a scale in the song’s key, looked up at me, and told me to sing without accompaniment. No one had ever expected me to sight read music a cappella in my life. It was September 2006.

At Manchester College, I found purpose. After doing research for NASA with Dr. Gaier my freshman year I knew my place was in a lab doing research. Doing research with Dr. Osborne and on my own since then has only strengthened that and it is an opportunity I wouldn't have gotten at most colleges, and certainly wouldn't have had at a large university.
