Special Study Opportunities
Manchester University students studying biology or environmental studies get plenty of hands-on opportunities, both on and off campus. They gain practical experience in areas that matter in the real world. Examples include:
Bird banding
Biology students in Dr. Jerry Sweeten's class capture and band birds at Koinonia Environmental and Retreat Center as they study their life spans, migration habits and growth rates.

Alaska

Dr. Jerry Sweeten led a trip to Alaska for nine students and three adults in this  two-week field class. The group spent the entire trip on the Kenai Peninsula where they met with scientists actively involved in research with climate change, stream restoration, moose populations and water quality monitoring. They hiked many miles and spent several days in the bush. "A hot shower and warm meal sure felt good at the end of our adventure," says Sweeten.
