Tanglewood Marionettes will perform their award-winning production “The Dragon King” on Saturday, Oct. 7, during Manchester University’s Homecoming & Family Weekend.

Performances are at 4 and 6:30 p.m. in Wine Recital Hall at the North Manchester campus. They are free and open to the public. All ages are welcome.

An underwater fantasy based on Chinese folklore, “The Dragon King” tells the tale of the intrepid Grandmother who journeys to the bottom of the sea in search of the elusive Dragon King and answers about why he has forsaken the land above with a terrible drought.

Manchester’s peace studies program first encountered Tanglewood Marionettes while on a January session travel course earlier this year in Atlanta, Ga., where students saw a performance of “The Dragon King” at the Center for Puppetry Arts.

The show runs for 50 minutes and includes sound and light effects, as well as some loud noises.

This production is sponsored by the Peace Studies Institute and the Cable Peace Studies Fund. It is part of Manchester’s Values, Ideas and the Arts (VIA) programming.

Homecoming & Family Weekend on Oct. 6 and 7 offers a number of events that are open to the public, including the street fair and football game. Learn more at https://www.manchester.edu/alumni/events/HOCO2023
