Manchester University names director of student involvement, leadership development

samantha17NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Samantha Alley is the new director of student involvement and leadership development at Manchester University.

She will provide strategic direction for the Office of Student Involvement, assessing current practices and department effectiveness, knowledge of current trends and best practices. The goal is to develop innovative ways to engage and involve students.

Alley will coordinate large-scale student leadership programs and initiatives, including leadership training, development workshops and implementing the new Leadership Certificate Program for advanced leaders.

“In my first year in this new role, my goal is to increase involvement, especially first-year students’ involvement in clubs, organizations and intramural sports,” she said. “I hope to build upon student leadership opportunities by providing direct one-on-one instruction and guidance for leadership development in those activities.

“In coming years, I plan to introduce students to opportunities for connecting with North Manchester and surrounding communities,” she said.

Alley had been an admissions counselor and began in her new position with the Student Experience Center on Feb. 1.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in educational studies from Manchester in 2011. She then went on to teach English in South Korea for five years before returning to her alma mater.

A North Manchester resident, Alley is originally from Portage, Ind., and graduated from Portage High School in 2007.
