Teen angst takes to Manchester stage with ‘Spring Awakening’ rock musical


NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Manchester University Theater presents the rock musical Spring Awakening in April.

The musical dealing with teenagers coming of age in repressive late 1800s Germany is intended for mature audiences only, because of adult language and content.

It is 7:30 p.m. April 13 and 14, and 2 p.m. April 15 in Cordier Auditorium. General admission is $12, and student and seniors are $8. It is free for Manchester University students.

Cast and crew includes MU students and community members: Clayton Marcum, Addison Neher, McKenzie Hare, Jake Svay, Emily Lynn, Haley Neilson, Tiffany Phinezy, Quinn L'Heureux, Freddie Lapierre, Anthony Vega, C.J. Cervera, Hayley Cochran, Paige Deal, Kayla Carver, Grace Smith and Thomas Hall.

It is directed by Kira Lace Hawkins, with musical direction by Debra Lynn. The assistant director is Hannah Wales.

Spring Awakening, with book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik, is based on the play by Frank Wedekind.
