Chinese service delegation to visit Manchester University
A dozen Chinese students doing service for six months in the United States are getting a taste of the Midwest this coming weekend, hosted by the North Manchester and Fort Wayne campuses of Manchester University.
Arriving Friday, Sept. 14, they will stay with local families and go to a corn maze, service organizations, the Johnny Appleseed Festival and visit other northeast Indiana sites. They leave Tuesday afternoon.
The Lingnan W. T. Chan Fellowships Program provides challenging educational and leadership opportunities for Chinese undergraduate students through service learning and intercultural experiences in the United States.
Through service, the Fellows explore challenges ranging from intercultural communication and nonprofit professionalism to personal growth and leadership development.
With support and guidance from program organizers, the internships are designed to help the Fellows gain practical experience in service work and intercultural cooperation. Fellows live in American homes for the full duration of the program. They also attend seminars on nonprofit organization management and community development, cultural events, as well as mandatory weekly reflection meetings while in the United States.
The Fellowships usually run from August to January.
