Manchester student is Mouse intern for STEM program in New York
Manchester University student Chris Francois, of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is among a select group of students across the nation accepted into the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty internship program.
The students are placed in an immersive internship to help strengthen impoverished areas or populations, mainly through education, health care, legal services, housing, social and economic needs, and community-building efforts.
Francois, who will be a senior this fall and is majoring in peace studies, with a minor in French, has spent the summer as an assistant at Mouse in New York City. Mouse is a nonprofit group that fosters diversity in computer science and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs for young people and educators.
While in the internship, Francois assisted the Mouse staff in coordinating the STEM Summer in the City program with the New York City Department of Education. Mouse provides curriculum, training and support.
Francois spent up to four days a week at high school sites, assisting teachers with program instruction to students.

In 2015, Francois co-founded the Delice Dental Health Initiative, an organization that offers expanded access to quality dental care in underserved communities in Haiti.
