Manchester honors Madalyn Metzger with Young Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award

Madalyn MetzgerNORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. –Madalyn Metzger finds a synergy to her busy life that many would envy. She lives in a deeply fulfilling space where her work and her passions for peace and social justice intersect.

Her call to service includes being a member of the Manchester University Board of Trustees. As its youngest trustee, she brings an important perspective to the board’s discussions and decision-making.

A native of central Illinois, Metzger always knew the school in North Manchester, Ind., would be a good fit for her. Her father, four aunts and her grandfather all graduated from Manchester.

As a student, she says, “I really started figuring out who I was.” Manchester helped Metzger clarify her values. In addition, it helped her recognize how she could play a role in the broader community across the nation and around the world.

She immersed herself in academic and student life, minoring in music and majoring in communication studies with an emphasis in interpersonal and organizational communication. She was involved in nearly every music group on campus, served on the Campus Ministry Board and on Student Senate.

Music, in particular, was one of the first places where she found community, friends and her Manchester family. One of those dear friends, Kris Brownlee, would become her husband.

When Metzger graduated in 1999, she found a good fit with Church World Service, an international faith-based humanitarian aid organization, for which she provided development communications.

From there, she went to Everence, a faith-based financial services organization. Like Manchester, Everence recognized her gifts — not just strong communication skills, but integrity and values.
Now vice president of marketing at Everence, Metzger embraces a leadership style that focuses on teamwork and collaboration.

She and husband Kris live in Bristol, Ind., and attend the Goshen City Church of the Brethren.

At Manchester University Homecoming 2017, Metzger was honored Oct. 14 by the Alumni Association with the Young Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award.

Manchester University is one of six colleges across the United States grounded in the values and traditions of the Church of the Brethren.

She is speaking on campus at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the upper level of the Jo Young Switzer Center. Professional dress is required for students, and they should bring their student ID to sign in.
