MU dance marathon to raise money for Riley Children’s Hospital

Manchester University students are inviting the neighbors to come over and dance for a good cause.

Where Dreams Come True Dance Marathon to benefit Riley Hospital for Children begins at 6 p.m. Friday, April 17, in the Physical Education and Recreation Center (PERC) at the North Manchester campus. It ends at midnight.

“You are welcome to dress up as Disney characters or as casually and comfortably as you would like – just make sure to bring your dancing shoes,” said senior Erin Brock, co-president of the event with junior Kaitlyn Cook. “Our goal is $8,000, and every penny we raise goes directly to the hospital.”

To register as an individual or team go to https://link.manchester.edu/dance. Click the “Donate” button to give in the name of a participant or directly to the Riley Children’s Foundation.

“Many of us have family and friends who are or have been patients at Riley’s. We have loved ones who have fought for their life because of illness, so we dance to celebrate them and their strength while raising money and awareness to support those who are saving their lives,” Brock said. “We dance for those who can’t.”

The dance marathon is a natural for Manchester, and it is a perfect fit for its mission: to graduate “persons of ability and conviction who draw upon their education and faith to lead principled, productive, and compassionate lives that improve the human condition.”

Individuals and teams can also register at the event. Registration includes a T-shirt, food and refreshments.  T-shirts will also be sold separately. Donations will also be accepted at the marathon and through activities leading up to the event.

“Our dream is that not only do we raise money and awareness for Riley Hospital for Children this year, but we set the foundation for future dance marathons at Manchester University,” Brock said.
