April programs feature Manchester University students
The mission of Manchester University is to graduate people of ability and conviction who use their skills, experiences and faith to make the world a better place. Some of them are going to get their diplomas on May 18, but they will be on stage at least once before then.
The Values, Ideas and the Arts series in April will include student speakers:
- Kenny Doss is co-founder and vice president of the Bridging the Gap Globally basketball program in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago’s south side. A first-generation college student, he and his father set up the nonprofit that provides a safe haven for dozens of kids each day. The College of Business Club hosts “Kenny Doss: Bridging the Gap” at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11 in the upper level of the Jo Young Switzer Center.
- More than a third of Manchester students study abroad. “Spartans Overseas” will share the experiences of seniors Tiffany Byers in Belgium and Kaitlin Mindiola in Japan, and 2018 alumnus and Peace Studies Coordinator Zander Willoughby in France. It is 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 in Cordier Auditorium.
- Students are leading an interactive alcohol education program between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23. The location has moved to the upper level of the Jo Young Switzer Center. The public is welcome to visit the stations and enjoy fun learning experiences along the way.
- Rocco Angone will speak about the relationship between how valued we are as individuals and how that contributes to one's mental health. "The Social Undertones of Mental Health" is 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 in Cordier. It is a Senior Series presentation.
All of the programs are free, and the public is welcome.
