MU Student Chloe Steele Named 2024 “Realizing the Dream” Honoree

Mar 5, 2025

Manchester University sophomore Chloe Steele, a first-generation college student from North Manchester, has been selected by the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) as the 2025 Realizing the Dream scholarship recipient. She was honored at the ICI banquet held in Indianapolis on March 1, 2025.

About the “Realizing the Dream” Program

Established in 1989, the Realizing the Dream scholarship program, funded by Lilly Endowment Inc., recognizes one outstanding first-year first-generation student from each of Indiana’s private, nonprofit colleges. Each selected student receives a $4,000 scholarship, and nominates an influential educator—elementary or secondary—who then receives a $1,000 professional development grant. These honorees are celebrated together at an annual banquet in Indianapolis.

About the Recipient

Chloe is majoring in Digital Media Arts and Public Relations. Reflecting on her growth at MU, she shared, “I really think I’ve grown in communication skills, responsibility, adaptability, and building networks. Manchester continues equipping me with tools for both career and life.”

After graduation, Chloe hopes to become the executive director of Daniel’s Place, a local nonprofit providing respite care for individuals with special needs. She currently serves as marketing manager for the organization, active since its founding in 2018.

Chloe selected Debra Kern, retired art teacher from Manchester Junior–Senior High School, as the educator who most influenced her decision to pursue higher education. Kern received a $1,000 professional development grant in Chloe’s honor.
