Students will learn to research, plan, implement and evaluate communication campaigns. Activities focus on how to build relationships between an organization and its publics, monitor the organization’s environment and counsel management on policies and programs.

260 INTRODUCTION TO PUBLIC RELATIONS | 3 Credits
An introduction to the ethical management of relationships between organizations and the publics that can affect their success. Students learn the public relations process of research, planning, communication and evaluation.
324 PERSUASION | 3 Credits
A study of the messages that move humans to act. Emphasis on the persuasive, argumentative
and propagandistic appeals used to secure or resist social change. Students employ a number
of analytical tools to build critical inquiry skills and develop advocacy skills by creating and
presenting ethical arguments. Spring.
364Â PRODUCING FOR THE INTERNET | 3 Credits
Producing for the Internet introduces students to production techniques and distribution
practices for contemporary internet productions. The class places a particular emphasis on
video streaming, website design, and mobile app development. Students will learn about the
increasingly diverse distribution economy of online content as well as practical skills to
participate in Internet production, including the production of online video essays, personal
websites for professionalization purposes, and mobile application prototypes.
435 APPLIED STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION | 3 Credits
This is a capstone course designed to give students practical experience with understanding how elements of public relations, social media, and digital media are integrated and applied to help organizations strategically achieve their objectives. Students will be assigned a client and will work together to design and execute their own campaign.
