Athletics – Intramural Sports
Intramurals at Manchester University promote:

- Development of physical, social, and mental well-being of all participants
Look for special events sponsored by Intramurals throughout the year.
Roster size limits:
- 3 v 3 Volleyball – 6 players
- Touch Football – 9 players
- Sand Volleyball – 9 players
- Basketball – 10 players
- Indoor Soccer – 10 players
- 6 v 6 Volleyball – 10 players
- Softball – 12 players
Everyone on a roster MUST attend a rules meeting. Rosters should be turned in prior to meetings.

Rules & Regulations
Participants
Students – All current students at Manchester University are eligible to participate in the intramural program.
Faculty & Staff – All current faculty and staff at Manchester University are eligible to participate in the intramural program. Faculty and staff participants are subject to the same rules, policies, and procedures as other participants.
Intercollegiate Athletes– “In-Season” intercollegiate athletes are restricted from participating in their current sport. “Off-Season” athletes are allowed to participate with no more than two (2) intercollegiate athletes per roster in that sport. In the case of co-recreational leagues, no more than two (2) intercollegiate athletes are allowed on a roster in that sport regardless of gender. A student is considered an intercollegiate athlete in a sport for the current academic year if he/she is on the sport’s official roster after the start of intercollegiate competition for the season.
Free Agents – If you are unable to get on a team or put together your own, then register with the IM Staff as a free agent. The IM staff will contact you if placement on a team becomes available.
Participation in the IM program is completely voluntary. The participant’s signature on the liability waiver form indicates the participant has read about and assumes the risk for any injuries that may occur during the sports competition.
Any team that allows a person to participate who does not meet the eligibility requirements will forfeit all games in which the ineligible player(s) participate.
After entering one contest with a given intramural team, a player may not transfer to another intramural team during that season, including playoffs. Participants may only be part of ONE roster per sport. Exception: In sports with Co-Rec and Men’s league(s), a male player may be part of a Co-Rec team and either an Men’s A or B team (two teams total).
To be eligible to participate in the playoffs, team members must have participated in at least 50 percent of regular season games.
Captains & Sport Meetings
Each Intramural team must have a designated captain. This individual is the coordinator between the team and IM Staff. Captains also serve as the representative for their teams. Captains should be knowledgeable of both the sports rules and intramural policies. Captains are also responsible for timely communication with team regarding all contest information.
The IM staff reserves the right to put into effect emergency rulings and policies for a sport and will notify all participants through team captains of the change.
Sport meetings will be held at the beginning of each sport season. All rules, policies, and tournament structures will be discussed at the sport meetings. Sport meetings are mandatory for ALL team captains in that sport. When possible, multiple meetings will occur to accommodate schedules. Participants are responsible for making themselves familiar with the IM rules and the specific rules of the sport in which they are participating.
Discipline
Any participant, captain, or spectator who is ejected must leave the playing area immediately or his or her team will forfeit the game.
Any individual who is ejected twice during intramural activities is ineligible for any intramural participation for the remainder of the academic year.
Depending on the severity of the behavior, IM staff may contact campus security and/or the Directors of Intramural Program.
Forfeits
If you are not able to participate in a scheduled game, please contact the IM Intern 24 hours in advance and every effort to reschedule your game will be made. If it is not possible to reschedule the game, the team originally unable to participate will incur a loss rather than a forfeit.
New Sports
Any individual or group that would like to request a new intramural sport or tournament must present a request to the Directors of Intramural Program. The IM staff will review the request and its potential as a new sport.
IM Supervisors & Officials
Individuals interested in working for the IM program should contact the Directors of Intramural Program and review open positions posted by Human Resources. Workers are subject to evaluation and possible removal by the IM Staff based on input by team captains and IM Supervisors.
Sport Specific Rules and Regulations
Please note: IM Staff reserve the right to cancel a sport offering if less than 4 teams are entered in a given season.
