  • Haston a semifinalist for prestigious academic award

    Manchester University senior quarterback Logan Haston, of Avon, Ind., is one of 135 student-athletes across the nation to be named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation’s William V. Campbell Trophy. The trophy is named for William Campbell, a business executive and former player and coach at Columbia University. The most prestigious academic award in college football, the trophy recognizes student-athletes for academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership.

    The National Football Foundation will announce 15 finalists on Oct. 29 and each of them will receive an $18,000 scholarship for graduate studies. The finalists will travel to New York for the 58th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 8 where the winner will have his scholarship increased to $25,000.

     
  • MU soccer teams recognized for academic excellence

    Manchester University is one of 208 schools from across all college divisions to have its men’s and women’s 2014-15 teams receive the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s college team academic awards, announced Sept. 23. MU’s men were honored for the ninth time since 2000 and the fifth straight year, while the women received the accolade for the sixth time and fourth consecutive year.

    The NSCAA annually recognizes college and high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the field. A total of 859 soccer teams (305 men and 554 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher to be recognized.

  • Stork, Minnich selected for leadership program

    Hannah Stork, director of career and professional development at Manchester University, has been selected for this year's Leadership Fort Wayne program. The eight-month program helps develop personal and professional skills to positively impact the community. Carrie Minnich, a 2001 MU accounting graduate, also was chosen. She is senior manager at Dulin, Ward & DeWald Inc.

    Arturo Yanez, associate professor of Spanish, has a photograph, “Wishing for a Star,” included in The National: Best Contemporary Photography on exhibit at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art through Jan. 3, 2016. The National is a hybrid invitational and juried exhibition.
     
  • Pharmacy students win spirit award at conference

    More than 30 Manchester pharmacy students attended the Midyear Regional Meeting of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists recently in Dearborn, Mich., and won the Spirit Award for their efforts. Nikhil Patel, a fourth-year student at MU, served as the Region 4 Midyear Regional Meeting coordinator. 
  • P3 student helps create video for millennial suicide chat line

    Tyson Merry, a third-year pharmacy student at MU, recently helped RemedyLive.com, a millennial suicide chat line, create a video with financial support from the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation in Fort Wayne. Tyson presented on her project, which related to the course Medical Management of Vulnerable and Underserved.
  • Psychology majors score at 89th percentile

    The MU Psychology Department recently received results from the Major Field Test in Psychology. Sixty-three hundred seniors at 221 colleges and universities took the Major Field Test this year.  MU psychology majors scored at the 89th percentile when compared with our peers nationwide.

     

     

  • MU student organizes education event

    Thirty-nine in-service teachers from Manchester, Ball State, Indiana Wesleyan and Trine attended a professional development opportunity on Saturday, Nov. 21. The event was hosted by junior elementary education major Hannah Deubner, Indiana State Education Association Region 2 representative. The first-time event including a lunch networking session and speed teaching. Eight classroom teachers took part in four speed teaching sessions. "Hannah demonstrated her ability to be a state leader in her professionalism and enthusiasm for organizing this event," said Heather Schilling, Manchester SEA advisor.

     

     

  • Kristen Short receives research grant

    Kristen Short, assistant professor of biology, has received a grant of $3,000 from the Indiana Academy of Science. The grant will fund research investigating interactions among invasive species and will involve work with several biology students over the next year or two.   

     

     

  • Matt Brown named HCAC player of the week

    Matt Brown, a senior forward from Hobart, Ind., was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

    In games against Calvin College and Kalamazoo College, Brown averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, while shooting 70.6 percent from the field (12-for-17) and 60 percent (6-for-10) from behind the arc.
