Skendaj presents research, pedagogy throughout the year

Posted April 22 - Elton Skendaj, Muir Associate Professor in Peace Studies, has been actively presenting on peace studies research and pedagogy during the 2018-2019 academic year. On Oct. 1 at the University of Toledo, he presented research on “Strategic Peacebuilding: Rebuilding Institutions after Civil War,” as well as a pedagogical presentation on “Student Stories: Using Digital Media for Civic Engagement in Peace Studies courses.”

Skendaj also presented a paper titled “Externally driven Rule of Law: International Experts, Political Patronage and Domestic Accountability in Weak States” at a research workshop on Internationalizing Kosovoat Arizona State University Jan. 30-31. He made a teaching presentation on “Acting the Change through Theatre of the Oppressed” at the Fort Wayne Teaching and Learning Conference on Feb. 22. Skendaj will present a paper on “Re-presenting ‘Albanian studies’ in the West” at the International Conference of the Bulgarian Comparative Education Society in Pomorie, Bulgaria, June 10-11.

As the current president of the scholarly Society for Albanian Studies, Skendaj chaired the organization’s annual meeting of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies in Boston December 6-9. He participated at the Alliance for Peacebuilding conference in Washington, D.C., Oct. 24-25. And in March, he chaired the panel on The International Experience of Migration at the 2019 Notre Dame Student Peace Conference where four MU students presented papers on refugees and stateless people in Lebanon, Jordan, Nigeria and Dominican Republic.
