Building Confidence
Numi Tesfay speaks with a self-assured confidence. Maybe it’s because the Manchester junior is from the metropolitan city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where she attended a French school with international students and learned to speak four languages along the way.
Maybe, too, it’s Manchester. A double major in business management and professional sales, Numi found career inspiration in Professor Joe Messer’s Principles of Management course. After graduation, she plans to return home to help grow the family business. “You can build something based on what you love,” says Numi. “I want to take my mom’s company and make it a bigger thing.”

Inside and outside of class, Numi discovered a supportive community at Manchester, which she calls her “home away from home.” And here, just like back home in Ethiopia, her family and friends hail from around the globe. “At Manchester you have a whole new family that you can rely on,” she says.

Life sometimes comes at you fast, one day you’re in high school thinking when is this going to be over and the next thing you know, you’re in college. Once in college you try to figure out how to do things. At Manchester, there are so many individuals from faculty members to staff, to students, that will help you figure out things, and shape you into someone magnificent and successful.
