Dr. Jonathan Watson, Ph.D. has taught a wide sweep of courses in his twenty-five plus years at Manchester. History of the English Language; British and Irish Literature; Cinema for Social Change; J.R.R. Tolkien; Sherlock Holmes; and Creative Writing are notable favorites.

Notable Work:
Dr. Watson has traveled widely with the support of the University: He has participated in an NEH Seminar on “Texts and Manuscripts” at the New British Library in London, where he worked with the Beowulf manuscript; he has traveled on a Ploughshares Grant to Cuba with faculty colleagues; he has been a writer at both the Breadloaf Writers’ Conference in Vermont and the Squaw Valley Writers’ Community in Northern California. Over the span of his MU career, he has also served on the Faculty Executive Committee, the VIA Committee. chaired the Athletics Committee, and directed the Honors Program. A former student-athlete at Vanderbilt University, Prof. Watson has been the Faculty Athletic Representative for MU for more than a decade, voting on NCAA issues at the NCAA National Convention. The highlights are plentiful in the Manchester community: Dr. Watson is a guitarist in the faculty/staff Otho Winger Experience; he has led a Timbercrest book group at the North Manchester Public Library for more than twenty years; he has coached youth soccer, basketball, and baseball.
Honors and Awards:
Dr. Watson is a former Fulbrighter to Iceland and was a longstanding member of the Fulbright Committee at Manchester.
