Uma Ganesan, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of History and Dept. Chair

Dr. Uma Ganesan, Ph.D. joined Manchester in August 2015. Prior to Manchester, she taught at Berea College in Kentucky and at Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania. At Manchester, she enjoys teaching courses in world history, Asian history, women’s and gender history, history of imperialism and colonialism, and historical research methods. In short, Dr. Ganesan loves all things history and is passionate about teaching the ‘what, how, and why’ of history. She also very much enjoys teaching the first-year courses such as the First Year Writing Seminar where she gets to work and interact with First Years, a favorite part of her job at Manchester.

– Women and gender
– Asian history, particularly India and China
