MAT Accreditation

The mission of the Master of Athletic Training Program at Manchester University is to prepare person-centered, evidence-based athletic trainers who actively seek to improve the lives of others by serving their profession, patients, and greater community with integrity and respect.

The Manchester University Athletic Training Program will graduate students with ability and conviction to provide patients with professional, evidence-based care.

Our program has developed outcomes that align our mission with the mission of the Manchester University, the College of Health Professions, Nursing, and Pharmacy and the School of Health Professions and Nursing.

Goal 1: Deliver a comprehensive didactic and clinical education program that prepares graduates for professional practice as athletic trainers.

Outcome 1.1: Students will complete the Athletic Training Program within three years.

Outcome 1.2: Graduates will achieve a passing score on the Board of Certification (BOC) Examination.

Outcome 1.3: Graduates will obtain employment as athletic trainers within six months of graduation.

Outcome 1.4: Students will rate instruction as effective.

Outcome 1.5: Students will engage in clinical education experiences representing the full spectrum of athletic training settings and patient populations.

Goal 2: Prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and clinical competencies required for entry-level athletic training practice.

Outcome 2.1: Students will educate and communicate effectively to promote healthy lifestyle behaviors and reduce injury and illness risk.

Outcome 2.2: Students will demonstrate effective verbal and written communication with diverse stakeholders.

Outcome 2.3: Students will perform evidence-based assessments and evaluations to develop accurate clinical and differential diagnoses.

Outcome 2.4: Students will manage emergency and critical incidents using best practices in immediate care.

Outcome 2.5: Students will identify appropriate referral needs and contribute to interprofessional care planning.

Outcome 2.6: Students will design and implement rehabilitation plans using patient-reported outcome measures, therapeutic exercise, modalities, and manual techniques.

Outcome 2.7: Students will apply best practices in policy development, documentation, and business operations.

Outcome 2.8: Students will demonstrate professional behaviors aligned with ethical, legal, and employment standards.

Outcome 2.9: Students will formulate patient-centered clinical questions and critically appraise current literature.

Outcome 2.10: Students will integrate evidence, patient values, and clinical expertise to deliver safe and effective care for complex conditions.

Goal 3: Promote professional engagement and leadership among faculty.

Outcome 3.1: Faculty will engage in scholarship demonstrating contemporary expertise.

Outcome 3.2: Faculty will participate in professional organizations.

Outcome 3.3: Faculty will pursue leadership roles within professional organizations.

Goal 4: Ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical education experiences.

Outcome 4.1: Maintain a highly qualified preceptor workforce.

Outcome 4.2: Support preceptor preparedness for clinical education responsibilities.

Outcome 4.3: Promote high-quality student clinical learning experiences.

Manchester University’s Master of Science in Athletic Training is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Our program is accredited through the 2026-2027 academic year and will undergo a comprehensive review at that time.
