The Doctor of Pharmacy Program at Manchester University equips future pharmacists with the knowledge and know-how to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Our four-year, on-campus Doctor of Pharmacy Program, which requires at least two years of pre-pharmacy coursework, is an integrated educational environment encompassing the disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy practice. Through this comprehensive program, you’ll prepare for a wide range of career opportunities, from community pharmacies to clinical, hospital and institutional settings.

Moreover, our innovative technologies keep us at the forefront of the profession, while our strong connection to liberal arts equips you with transferable skills crucial for success in the ever-evolving world of health care. In addition to our in-person doctorate in pharmacy, we offer the opportunity to earn your Pharm.D. mostly online with our distance pathway. Our Pharm.D./Pharmacogenomics dual degree programs are also available.

Why Choose Manchester’s Doctor of Pharmacy?

As a Doctor of Pharmacy student, you’ll immerse yourself in three years of didactic (instructional) study, along with Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) that place you into various real-world pharmacy settings. The fourth year is entirely experiential, involving six required and four elective rotations of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE). Upon graduation, you’ll be required to take and pass the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) to obtain licensure.

With a focus on experiential learning, our pharmacy degree program will prepare you to become a well-rounded pharmacist. You’ll benefit from immersive field experiences, personalized faculty support, and specialized tracks in leadership, residency-acute care, residency-ambulatory care and research.

Our Doctor of Pharmacy Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. This means, as a student in our pharmacy graduate program, you’ll receive a high-quality education that meets rigorous standards.

ACPE Standards Complaints

The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), the pharmacy program accreditation agency, is required to demonstrate to the U.S. Secretary of Education its expectations regarding a program’s recording and handling of student complaints. ACPE must demonstrate a link between its review of complaints and its evaluation of a program in the accreditation process.

A complaint regarding Manchester University’s compliance with ACPE standards, policies or procedures can be filed by a Manchester University Pharm.D. student by completing a formal written complaint using the student complaint eform which can be found in the Students Complaints folder of the Pharmacy Home folder in the University’s learning management system, Canvas. Institutions, students, faculty or the public may submit a detailed written complaint directly to ACPE at csinfo@acpe-accredit.org.

Admissions Requirements

Admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy Program at Manchester University is limited and competitive. Students who meet minimum requirements may apply and, among the pool of applicants, those who are most qualified are chosen to interview for acceptance into the program. Meeting all minimum admissions criteria doesn’t guarantee an interview and/or admission to the program.

International students interested in the Doctor of Pharmacy Program (on-campus only) must meet additional requirements.

Application Process

Applications for admission are accepted between mid-July and June each year for the following fall semester. Submit application materials through the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS), a centralized application service to apply to multiple Pharm.D. programs offered by schools and colleges of pharmacy.

The annual admission cycle is as follows:

  • Mid-July – PharmCAS application becomes available
  • Fall to Spring – Interview days scheduled
  • June 1 – Deadline for PharmCAS application NOTE: Deadline is subject to change and may be extended.
  • Summer – Final admissions decisions
  • August – Orientation and classes begin
