Posted April 17 - Rob Beckett, associate professor of pharmacy practice, published an article, “Reporting Quality of Survey Research Articles Published in the Pharmacy Literature,” in January in Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy. Co-authors were Kiersten Rybakov (Eli Lilly), Ian Dilley (Eli Lilly), and Amy Sheehan (Purdue).

Posted April 17 - Leonard Williams, dean of the College of Education and Social Sciences and professor of political science, edited a symposium on political science podcasts, printed in the April issue of PS: Political Science & Politics. Williams’ contributions include an introductory essay and a primer on how to start a podcast, “Political Science and Podcasts.”

Some of the podcasts featured in the symposium cover recent academic work (e.g., New Books in Political Science and The Science of Politics) and others cover current events (e.g., A Few Reasonable Words and Barstool Politics).

Posted March 12 – Stacy Erickson-Pesetski, professor of English and associate dean of academic affairs, and Tim McKenna-Buchanan, assistant professor of communication studies, have been selected to represent Manchester in a workshop of the Council of Independent Colleges in July. The workshop, in Washington, D.C., will focus on Deliberation and Debate: Advancing Civil Discourse through First-Year Courses. 

Posted March 2 - Eva Sagan, instructor of mathematics, is a member of the United States Streak Runner’s Association Inc. As of March 12, 2020, Sagan will have run at least five miles a day, every day, for five years. A Fort Wayne resident, Sagan was featured in a recent newsletter of the organization. In that profile, she said that she runs “anytime and anywhere” – from the local YMCA track, to parks and nature trails around Fort Wayne, to beaches when she’s on vacation. 

Nick Baker ’18 of Carmel, Ind., has earned his master’s degree in sports informatics at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis. He completed his master’s degree consultancy project last summer with the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis, analyzing basketball shot location data. He now does contract work for the NCAA’s rules enforcement division.

Posted Feb. 27 - Stacy Erickson-Pesetski, professor of English and associate dean of academic affairs, was the guest speaker Feb. 27 at the Lindsay-Crane Center for Writing and Literature at Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio. “He’s a Smooth Talker Like Me – Reading Shakespeare with Juvenile Offenders” explored Erickson-Pesetski’s most recent adventure reading plays with male offenders ages 13 to 18 at Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility in Indiana. She also spoke to four classes.

For six years, Erickson-Pesetski has brought Shakespeare into a variety of prisons in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois, work that she says provides insight into the universality of Shakespeare as well as the talent and empathy hidden in our correctional facilities.
