Posted June 14 - Whitney Bandemer, vice president for human resources and strategic initiatives, was a featured speaker at the LEAP HR – Higher Education conference in Austin, Texas, on May 28. Bandemer’s presentation was titled “Rethink Professional Development in Your Institution to Transform Employee Engagement” in which she talked about the development of HR’s leadership and professional development programming. 

Posted June 14 - Celia Elder, administrative assistant in the Office of Experiential Education, will speak June 19 behalf of the Hoosier Chapter Sierra Club and Save Maumee Grassroots Organization at a public forum to discuss key issues facing the Great Lakes. Domestic Action Plan (DAP) Advisory Committees in all U.S. Great Lakes states choose one non-government representative and one government representative to provide updates to the public about their DAP progress. Roundtable discussions are open to the public, and participants are invited to contribute their views about the governments’ progress to restore and protect the Great Lakes. 

Posted June 14 - Jennifer Henriksen, associate dean of Academic Affairs and Assessment, and Sara Trovinger, director of experiential education, will present at the 2019 TIPed Institute atWashington State University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences June 18-20. The Transformation and Innovation in Pharmacy Education Institute is a community dedicated to integrating innovation within pharmacy curricula. The topic of their session will be “EPAs: Assessing and Mapping the Affective Domains.”

Posted May 14 - Junior Haley Farris has been chosen to receive the Indiana Athletic Trainers' Association Robert S. Behnke Professional Education Scholarship. It will be presented at the association’s annual meeting on June 3 in Indianapolis. Learn more. 

Posted April 22 - Elton Skendaj, Muir Associate Professor in Peace Studies, has been actively presenting on peace studies research and pedagogy during the 2018-2019 academic year. On Oct. 1 at the University of Toledo, he presented research on “Strategic Peacebuilding: Rebuilding Institutions after Civil War,” as well as a pedagogical presentation on “Student Stories: Using Digital Media for Civic Engagement in Peace Studies courses.”

Skendaj also presented a paper titled “Externally driven Rule of Law: International Experts, Political Patronage and Domestic Accountability in Weak States” at a research workshop on Internationalizing Kosovoat Arizona State University Jan. 30-31. He made a teaching presentation on “Acting the Change through Theatre of the Oppressed” at the Fort Wayne Teaching and Learning Conference on Feb. 22. Skendaj will present a paper on “Re-presenting ‘Albanian studies’ in the West” at the International Conference of the Bulgarian Comparative Education Society in Pomorie, Bulgaria, June 10-11.

As the current president of the scholarly Society for Albanian Studies, Skendaj chaired the organization’s annual meeting of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies in Boston December 6-9. He participated at the Alliance for Peacebuilding conference in Washington, D.C., Oct. 24-25. And in March, he chaired the panel on The International Experience of Migration at the 2019 Notre Dame Student Peace Conference where four MU students presented papers on refugees and stateless people in Lebanon, Jordan, Nigeria and Dominican Republic.

Posted April 18 - Greg Hetrick, director of admissions and enrollment management for Pharmacy Programs, presented on “Enrolling and Graduating the Right Students: Challenges and Strategies in an Ever-Changing Pharmacy Landscape” at the Indiana Pharmacists Association (IPA) annual convention in Indianapolis April 12 and 13. Ahmed Abdelmageed, assistant dean of student, alumni and community engagement, also presented at the convention on “Caring for Diverse Patient Populations.” 

Posted April 18 - Shekher Mohan, assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences, has joined the board of the LEARN Resource Center. LEARN Resource Center provides before school, after school and summer programs for students in grades K-6 in underserved areas.

Posted April 18 - Julie Cogley-Pifko, assistant director of admissions and enrollment management for Pharmacy Programs, and McKenzie Grubb, admissions counselor for Pharmacy Programs, have been selected to serve on the College Leadership Institute Planning Committee for 2019-2020 with the Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana (YLNI). Julie and McKenzie were selected in December for the 2019 YLNI Leadership Institute Class which graduated April 17. 

Posted April 17 - A group of Manchester University students presented a panel on migration research at the Notre Dame Student Peace Conference on March 30. The theme of this year’s conference was “Expanding Circles” and focused on inclusive peace-building. Manchester’s panel was comprised of Chris François, Kendall Brown, Kelleen Cullison and Susu Lassa. They discussed Syrian refugees in the United States versus Jordan and IDPs in Nigeria, among other topics.
