Posted Feb. 27 - Janina Traxler will participate in a lecture series in April at the University of New Mexico College of Arts and Sciences Institute for Medieval Studies. Traxler, professor of French at MU, will speak on “Vessel, Quest, Prize, Test, Threat: The Many Faces of the Grail” as part of the 33rd Spring Lecture Series: Sacred Objects and Places of the Middle Ages. 

Posted Feb. 23 - Leonard Williams, professor of political science and dean of the College of Education and Social Sciences, has teamed again with former MU faculty member Neil Wollman. The two have contributed an opinion piece, “The Need for a Commission on Renewing Democracy and Seeking Common Ground” to The Hill. Read it here.

Posted Feb. 22 - On January 29, Environmental Studies students Tristan Barley and Josh Melton and Assistant Professor Suzanne Beyeler, director of the Environmental Studies Program, presented results from their summer research project at the Walmart Inc. corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark. This project was part of an ongoing research partnership between MU’s Environmental Studies Program and Kleenco Maintenance & Construction to evaluate the ecological integrity of mitigated wetlands on Walmart properties throughout the Midwest. 

Posted Feb. 22 - Leonard Williams contributed an essay, "Reform," co-authored the introduction and helped edit a new volume titled Anarchism: A Conceptual Approach, to be published soon. Leonard is professor of political science and dean of the College of Education and Social Sciences. Read more.

Posted Feb. 16 - Jillian Watts, director of Manchester’s CARE Initiative and CEO of Beyond the Margins Consulting, LLC, has been named to the 2018 class of Forty Under 40 by Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly. The program honors 40 people 39 years old and younger who go above and beyond at work and in the community to make a difference.

Winners will be honored at an awards dinner on March 29 at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum Conference Center.

Posted Feb. 16 - Zach Dougal, associated professor of exercise and athletic training, will present March 17 at the Great Lakes Athletic Trainer’s Association Annual Meeting in Wheeling, Ill. In the mini-course on Enhancing Emergent Care in Athletic Training: Intravenous (IV) Therapy, Zach will teach athletic trainers how to perform intravenous therapy for patients.

Also, Zach’s will present research June 27 at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Annual Symposia in New Orleans. “Preceptor’s Perceptions of Student Integration in an Immersive Clinical Education Model” will be part of a rapid fire presentation format for athletic trainers from across the country.

Posted Feb. 15 - Two psychology faculty members have published a chapter in Ethical Business Cultures in Emerging Markets. Jack Wiley and Kelsey-Jo Kessie published “Building More Ethical Organizations: The Global Employee Perspective.” Wiley is a professor who earned his Ph.D. in organizational psychology from the University of Tennessee. He is the author of two books, Strategic Employee Surveys: Evidence-based Guidelines for Driving Organizational Success and RESPECT: Delivering Results by Giving Employees What They Really Want. Kessie, an instructor, earned her Ph.D. in industrial-organizational psychology from Bowling Green State University. Her research focuses primarily on occupational health psychology and recovery from work.

Posted Feb. 15 - Steve Naragon, professor of philosophy, has contributed to an anthology on Immanuel Kant, published in December. Naragon wrote the chronology of Kant's life and writings as well as the biographical chapter on Kant: Steve Naragon, “Chronology of Kant’s Life” and “Kant’s Life.”  The Palgrave Kant Handbook, edited by Matthew C. Altman (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), pp. xxxi-xliv, 21-47.

Posted Feb. 14 - Fourth-year pharmacy student Lisa Pineros-Jacobs is Manchester’s winner in the final round of the National Patient Counseling Competition (NPCC). As a result, Lisa will represent MU in the national competition at the annual meeting of the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP).

Students were given a patient profile with a specific medication on which to counsel a standardized patient.  They had five minutes to prepare with drug information resources and five minutes to counsel a patient.  First runner-up is Sara Shahdoost Moghadam, a third-year student.
