Posted Nov. 19 - Mistie Potts, assistant professor of education, received a first-place award for her paper “Self-perceived Creativity Across Grade levels and Conditions” from the National Association for Gifted Children.  The paper, reviewed by experts in the field as well as the evaluation panel, won the category for completed research at the doctorate level.

Posted Nov. 19 - “Mechanical,” Debra Lynn’s composition for a saxophone quartet, was performed Nov. 8 by “The Moanin’ Saxos” as part of The Student Chamber Music Concert at Indiana State University.  Paul Bro, a saxophone professor at ISU and quartet director, was a guest artist with MU’s Department of Music last year.  Lynn’s composition was commissioned by Mikautadze Dance Theatre of Fort Wayne and premiered by Farrell Vernon and other saxophone professors from IPFW during their June 2016 dance concert.  Since then, “Mechanical” has been performed regularly by various saxophone groups. Lynn is professor of music at choral director at MU.

Posted Nov. 19 - Debra Lynn, professor of music and director of choral studies, was the guest conductor and composer in residence for the Canyon County Honor Choir of Nampa, Idaho, on Nov. 12-14.  She conducted the choir of more than 250 voices in rehearsal for three days and led them in a public performance the final evening.  In addition, the event was the premiere of Lynn’s composition “The Robin,” written specifically for this ensemble with string orchestra and piano.

Posted Nov. 16 - Marwa Noureldin, assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences, has been selected to serve on the editorial board of the journal Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy. 

Posted Nov. 16 - Scott Humphries, assistant professor of music, has earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in music education from Boston University. Scott is also director of instrumental studies and music education and is conductor of the Manchester Symphony Orchestra and Manchester University Bands.

His dissertation is titled Serious About Leisure: A Case Study of a Large Midwest Community Band.  Dr. Humphries’ field of study includes community and lifelong music-making.  He also holds a Master of Arts in Education from Virginia Tech and a Bachelor of Music Education from James Madison University.

Posted Nov. 13 - Beate Gilliar, professor of English and a long-standing executive board member of the Indiana College English Association, attended the annual conference, “Constructing Identity at the Intersections,” at the University of Indianapolis in October.  A former winner of the Annual Award for Scholarship and Teaching, Gilliar is a regular conference presenter.  She currently serves as a facilitator of the organization’s programming, securing keynote speakers, selecting panelists, reviewing presentation abstracts, and connecting with the national association.   

Posted Nov. 8 - Pamela Haynes, assistant director of music and director of piano studies, is the guest musical director of Huntington University Theatre Company's production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” which runs from Nov. 14-17. 

Posted Nov. 5 - Pharmacotherapy, the journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, has named Michael Bottorff, chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice, an Outstanding Reviewer. The scientific editors of the journal recognized Bottorff for both the number of manuscripts he has reviewed and the quality of his reviews. His service to Pharmacotherapy provides consistent and valuable advice and contributes to the quality of the journal, according to the editors. 

Posted Oct. 29 - Seth Mayer, assistant professor of philosophy, and Leonard Williams, professor of political science and dean of the College of Education and Social Sciences, presented a co-authored paper at the Association for Political Theory conference at Haverford College and Bryn Mawr College Oct. 18-20. “Honneth's Reconstruction of Socialism: A Critique” developed as a response to a book the two faculty members read in an interdisciplinary reading group.
