Gerontology as a major or minor

The gerontology program at Manchester University offers two options: an associate's degree in gerontology and a minor in gerontology to complement other areas of study. In gerontology courses, students learn about the physical, emotional, social, economic and spiritual aspects of aging to prepare for careers in human services, government agencies, retirement communities, nursing homes, health care, financial planning, and fitness and wellness. 

The gerontology program is interdisciplinary in nature allowing students to take courses in sociology, biology, social work, and psychology, as well as finance, nonprofit management, communication, accounting, business and exercise and sport sciences. As a result, students gain a better understanding of contemporary policies and practices, as well as social and cultural issues, as they relate to older adults. Students can tailor their studies to fit their individual career aspirations to either enter the job market after receiving an associate's or baccalaureate degree or to continue into a master's degree program.
