Sidhartha Ray, professor of pharmaceutical science, presented a seminar titled “Do We Really Understand—Drug-Induced Ultrastructural Changes?” at the University of Windsor, Canada.  

Fourth-year pharmacy students Sipan Keshishyan, Marina Rizkalla, Tuan Tran and Vlada Kovalevskaya will present their research at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy annual meeting July 23-27 in Anaheim, Calif. Their work is titled “Nuclear and mitochondrial ultrastructural changes during acetaminophen and dimethylnitrosamine-induced liver injury.”

The Indiana College of Clinical Pharmacy (ICCP) has selected Tung Nguyen as the Manchester University Pharmacy Program student representative. Over the next year, Tung will assist ICCP officers with a variety of activities throughout the school year including attending ICCP meetings, assisting with event planning and fundraising, and handling announcements and recruitment at Manchester.

Tung was one of several P4 students from Manchester who applied for the position and was selected by the ICCP officers.

Mike Martynowicz, instructor of education, will co-present “Predicting College Achievement with a Self-Regulatory Coping Model” May 29 at the Association for Psychological Science (APS) Convention in Chicago. He also is presenting a poster, “Curvilinear Relationships Among Test Anxiety, Motivation, and Self-Regulation: Evidence for a Control Theory.”

John Minnich, who served as an assistant professor of accounting at Manchester this past year, has received an Outstanding Community Service Award from the Indiana CPA Society. John has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from MU and is the Alumni Association president.

Kierstan Hanson presented recently in a webinar for the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. She is director of laboratory experiences and an assistant professor in the Pharmacy Program. The one-hour webinar is titled, “Patience for Patients: The Joys and Challenges of Using Standardized Patients in the Clinical Skills Lab.” Presenting with Hanson is Brittany Riley, assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University.

A piece on pharmacy education and pharmacogenomics written by Manchester’s Dave Kisor appears on the national Personalized Medicine Coalition website. Chair of the MU Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, he is director of the new program offering a Master of Science degree in Pharmacogenomics. 

Kurt Kurtzhals, visiting instructor of education, has been selected by the Indiana State Teachers Association to represent Indiana at the National Education Association (NEA) Representative Assembly (RA) this July in Washington, D.C.  As a member of the Elections Committee, Kurtzhals will help oversee all elections of the RA.

Bradley Williams, a sophomore history education major, has been elected by the state student organization to represent Indiana at the 2016 NEA Student Program, also in Washington, D.C. In addition, Logan Williams, a first-year elementary education major, has been selected as a non-delegate for the summer program.

Heather Schilling, associate professor of education, has been selected to serve as the campus advisor during the NEA Student Program. She will continue on in Washington as a non-delegate helping the Political Action Committee.

Stacy Erickson-Pesetski, associate dean of academic resources and associate professor of English, is sharing her work in prisons with local community groups. Shakespeare Behind Bars is a program dedicated to using theater to help prisoners develop the critical social skills necessary before reintegrating into society. Erickson-Pesetski has presented to the North Manchester Rotary Club and the Manchester University Community Club and, in early May, she will present to the Caring Women Bible Study.

Jeff Beer, associate professor of exercise science and athletic training, department chair and program director of the undergraduate athletic training program, coordinated the second annual North East Sports Medicine Symposium in March.  Beer started the symposium in 2015 in conjunction with Parkview Sports Medicine. The annual symposium at the Mirro Center in Fort Wayne focused on sports medicine topics for athletic trainers, physical therapists, physicians, and strength and conditioning specialists. In all, 70 sports medicine professionals and 20 students attended.  The symposium was started to allow MU students the ability to attend and network at an annual professional development event.
