  • Duchane completes year as SHAPE district president

    Kim Duchane, professor of exercise science and athletic training, recently completed his year of service as president of the Society for Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) – Midwest District and was recognized for his professional contributions at the society’s national convention in Minneapolis.  Duchane will now serve a one-year term as immediate past-president in continuing to support the work of SHAPE America.
  • Communication studies faculty presents at convention

    MU communication studies faculty will present at the Central States Communication Association annual convention in Grand Rapids, Mich., April 13-16.

    Professor Mary Lahman will serve as chair for the panel “Reframing, Rejecting, and Repurposing Work/Life Boundaries through Communication.”

    Assistant Professor Tim McKenna-Buchanan is the vice chair of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Caucus, and will become chair during the convention. He will present “To Be or Not To Be Out in the Classroom: Exploring Communication Privacy Management Strategies of Lesbian, Gay, and Queer College Teachers” and “Our Bodies as the Foundation: Personal Health Disclosures in the Health Communication Classroom."

    Assistant Professor Michelle Calka will present “Social Media, Spreadable Media, and Sharknado.”

     
  • Brauch presents at Wright State

    Tim Brauch, assistant professor of mathematics at Manchester, presented at the 57th Midwest Graph Theory (MIGHTY LVII) conference at Wright State University.  His presentation is "Results on Achievement Games."
  • Naragon's work in new book

    Steve Naragon, professor of philosophy, has published “Herder’s Student Notes from Kant’s Metaphysics Lectures”  in Herder: From Cognition to Cultural Science/Herder: Von der Erkenntnis zur Kulturwissenschaft, edited by Beate Allert (Synchron, 2016), pp. 249-58.
  • Ersin letter calls for support of prescription drug bill

    Özlem H. Ersin, associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences in MU's Pharmacy Program, had a letter to the editor published in the April 4, 2016, Fort Wayne Journal Gazette. Ersin wrote in support of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act, which is designed to curb abuse of prescription drugs. On March 10, the U.S. Senate passed the bill, which is now under consideration in the House. Read Ersin's letter.
  • Naragon publishes chapter on Kant

    Steve Naragon, professor of philosophy, contributed the opening chapter, “Reading Kant in Herder’s Notes,” in the recently published Reading Kant’s Lectures. The volume was edited by Robert R. Clewis and published by Walter de Gruyter. Naragon is chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.
  • Abdelmageed tabbed for post

     Ahmed Abdelmageed, director of pharmacy experiential education, is the 2015-2016 chair-elect of the Minority Faculty Special Interest Group of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).  Ahmed will serve as section chair for the 2016-2017 school year.
     
  • Rich elected vice chair of mathematical association

    Andy Rich, Oppenheim Professor of Mathematics, was recently elected vice chair of the Indiana Section of the Mathematical Association of America for 2016-17.  Andy will assume the section chair role in 2017-18.
  • Watson published in The Astrophysical Journal

    Christer Watson, associate professor of physics, was the lead investigator for a study published in The Astrophysical Journal, Feb. 10, 2016. February 10, 2016).  Manchester alumnus Nico Quintanar was a co-author for “CS Emission near Mir-bubbles” and worked with Christer on the project in summer 2014.
     
  • Lahman presents on role of listening in communication

    Mary Lahman, professor of communication studies, has been selected to present at the International Listening Association Convention in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday, March 11. Her presentation, titled “A Listening-Centered Approach to the Basic Communication Course,” explores how the MU Communication Studies faculty redesigned the COMM 110: Foundations of Human Communication course and developed a new textbook to focus on listening skills across communication contexts.
