Subject: COVID-19 update - June 25

Dear Colleagues,

As additional scientific information emerges regarding the importance of cloth face masks, Manchester has decided to require wearing masks in buildings on both the North Manchester and Fort Wayne campuses. When an employee is alone in a room and when students are in a residential room with their roommate, face coverings are not required. Wearing cloth masks during this pandemic helps protect your health and the health of people around you. Wearing a mask helps slow the spread of COVID-19 and is a gesture of respect for others.

The University has purchased enough cloth masks for all students and colleagues to receive one. You will receive your mask when you are invited back to campus as part of the phased reopening. Please see the table below for our plan to distribute the masks.

I imagine that many of you already have masks that you wear in public. You are welcome to wear those while on campus, too, and any other masks that you prefer, whether purchased or homemade. We understand that on occasion you may forget your face mask. When that happens, disposable masks will be available in the Center for Health and Sports Medicine on the North Manchester campus and in the Office of Student Affairs on the Fort Wayne campus.

Masks should be laundered frequently and it will be everyone’s individual responsibility to clean them. While it may seem helpful, please do not launder masks for others, including students. Soiled masks may trap live virus or other contagious germs, which could be a health hazard.

Faculty/Staff

Supervisor/designee will distribute (in phased reentry)

We understand that wearing a mask is not always comfortable, but it is an important part of what we can do to keep our community healthy. Please let us know if you have questions by emailing health@manchester.edu. Colleagues who need special accommodation should contact Human Resources at hr@manchester.edu.

Thanks,

Abby
