MU reaffirms support for undocumented students

Today in an email to students, faculty and staff, Manchester University President Dave McFadden reaffirmed the University’s support for undocumented and international students:

Friends,

In light of President Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, commonly called DACA, I’d like to reiterate a message I sent on Dec. 16, 2016:

Throughout our history, Manchester University has been guided by our mission to respect the infinite worth of every individual and commitment to equal rights and the protection of all members of our community. We value diversity and inclusion because understanding differences develops respect for ethnic, cultural and religious pluralism and an international consciousness.

Those concerned about changes in federal immigration policy should know that Manchester’s current policies and practices, grounded in our mission and values, will not change. We unequivocally affirm our commitment to all students, faculty and staff regardless of their national origin, ancestry, race, color, age, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, familial status, religion, disability or veteran status.
Our existing policies related to international and undocumented students will not change:
We will continue to admit students consistent with our nondiscrimination policies, considering undocumented students and international students for admission under the same criteria as U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
We will not participate in any immigration enforcement activities on our campuses unless compelled to do so.
We will not release any confidential student records unless authorized by the student or required by law.

Learning from differences deepens our appreciation of others, sharpens our values and encourages us to become our best selves. We are grateful for and will continue building a diverse learning community at Manchester.

Dave
