Subject: Manchester update - April 6

Dear Colleagues,

Manchester University continues to evaluate the COVID-19 situation and take steps to reduce risk:

  • We have decided to cancel or postpone summer conference events through June 15. We will watch developments over the next several weeks before making decisions about conferences scheduled through the remainder of the summer.
  • The Board of Trustees will hold a special, virtual meeting this Wednesday, April 8, to receive updates on our responses to the coronavirus.
  • Please join us for a virtual Conversations with Cabinet from noon to 1 p.m. this Thursday, April 9. We will take questions during the conversation, and you are welcome to send yours ahead of time to president@manchester.edu.

Katharine Ings reports that the Oak Leaves has transitioned to its new, temporary home on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheOakLeavesofManchesterUniversity/ There are some great stories to be read. Carly Greaves spoke to students about the challenges of moving out of their residence halls. Erin Hickle wrote about how Manchester is transforming the Student Research Symposium, and that Chris Francois has been named keynote speaker. There are also pieces on how students are adjusting to online learning and how student athletes are keeping in shape together. I encourage you to go to the link and “like” it.

This transition to Facebook is just one more sign of the grit and resiliency our students and colleagues exhibit every day.

Finally, a reminder that we are closed this coming Friday in observance of Good Friday. And that today is Monday. (Is anyone else losing track of what day of the week it is?!)

Be well, friends.

Dave
